Department of Physical Education

Islamia College of Science and Commerce is one of the leading Institutions in Northern India established in the year 1961 with an established and full-fledged Department of Physical Education, catering to the needs of thousands of students reading in the College. Physical Education which was earlier considered as an extra-curricular activity and is now deemed a part and parcel or a co-curricular activity which has the most important role to play by way of providing entertainment, recreation, improvement of physical and mental health, inculcation of discipline and meeting the playing needs of the Collegians. The college has facility for all major and minor games and sports in shape of playing equipments play field, uniforms etc. In addition the college has special equipments for all other adventure activities like, Aquatics, Forest Trekking and mountaineering.

WEAKNESSES
1/ The Department of Physical Education, has shortage of staff to cater the needs of full student population of the college.
2/ The Department has deficiency of a Lady Sports staff / Assistants / Instructors for female students /staff to manage and organize the sports events and activities for female students / staff.
3/ The Department has piled up used and un-serviceable sports material to be immediately written-off or to be shifted from the Departmental building.
4/ The Department is devoid of Indoor Sports facilities for the students of this college which hinders to develop Indoor games and combative sports.
OPPORTUNITIES
• The Islamia College of Science and Commerce being an Autonomous Institution, has an opportunity to organize bigger level tournaments involving all the state colleges.
• The Department has great opportunity to take their teams to participate in different sports tournaments and championships outside the valley being an Autonomous Institution.
• The Department has also an opportunity to facilitate the student players to get their participation in All India / North Zone Inter-University sports championships / tournaments and National level competitions in different games and sports conducted by AIU / other sports federations.
THREATS
• The Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce has got un-even playfield which is a constant threat of Injury to the college student players of our Institution. The playfield needs earth filling and leveling by some authorized agency.
• The college student players face shortage of class work attendance, missing of their internal as well as external examinations and practical lab class work is also a constant threat to them which create hurdles in their active participation in games and sports in and outside the college.

FACILITIES / INCENTIVES PROVIDED TO SPORTS PERSONS OF THE COLLEGE
• Physical Education Department of the College provides all kinds of standard equipment’s including Uniforms / Tracksuits to the student players of the college for playing matches.
• Provide refreshment and convenience charges to the players for playing inter college and other tournaments / matches.
• Provide Football and Cricket shoes to the team members of the college Football and Cricket teams at half of actual market rates.
• Provide Medical / Hospitalization / Medicinal facilities to the players of the College teams who get injured during inter college and other matches in or outside the college.
• Arrange special examinations for the sportsmen who miss the examination on schedule.
• Players are treated on duty on the days they are engaged for play / practice / coaching camps as the members of the college teams.
• Provide incentives in the shape of college, “COLOUR / BLAZER /COLLEGE UNIFORM / TRACK SUITS” or other awards to the members of college teams who win trophy / championship in the inter college or other tournaments.
• Providing of special grace marks in the internal assessment tests to the players who are the members of the college teams and lose a number academic classes while taking part in different sporting events at inter college level. (Under consideration).
